About

My career has been shaped by taking smart risks, being open to ideas, and seeing opportunities where others may not. I am proud of having the courage and confidence to make choices that were not “expected”. As a result, I now bring an unusual range of business expertise and operating experience in both large organizations and startups, as I advise entrepreneurs, evaluate and invest in business models, and serve on public and private boards. Highlighted below is a brief overview of my background. Lisa Shalett is a former Goldman Sachs Partner who now advises growth companies and serves on public and private boards. She is the Co-Founder of Extraordinary Women on Boards, a dynamic peer-to-peer community of hundreds of women corporate board directors focused on advancing board excellence, and raising the presence and influence of diverse board members. She began her career on Wall Street because of her Japan background, starting as an Associate in Japanese Equities Sales in NY. Over her 25+ year career at Goldman Sachs, she has held global leadership roles ranging from International Equities Sales & Trading, to Compliance, Legal and Audit, to Brand Marketing, Digital Transformation, and Strategic Innovation. She managed Goldman Sachs’ brand through the financial crisis. Lisa currently serves on the boards of PennyMac Financial (NYSE: PFSI), AccuWeather, digital agency Bully Pulpit Interactive and Japan-based VC firm MPower Partners, and chairs the board of non-profit Generation W. She serves as a Distinguished Fellow at the Duke University Fuqua/Coach K Center on Leadership and Ethics, an International Selection Panelist for Endeavor.org, and a Senior Fellow for the McDonald Conference on Leaders of Character at West Point. Lisa earned her MBA from Harvard Business School, and BA, summa cum laude, in East Asian Studies (Japan) from Harvard University.

Advisory Director Jun 2014 - Jan 20158 months Greater New York City Area After retiring from the Partnership in 2014, I was invited to stay at Goldman Sachs as an Advisory Director to leverage my expertise in digital strategy and marketing to help the Alumni Relations Office develop new ways to improve connectivity and engagement with the Goldman Sachs alumni population. Partner, Head of Brand Marketing & Digital Strategy at Goldman Sachs Apr 2010 - Jun 20144 years 3 months New York, NY In early 2010 I asked the President of the firm for a new challenge, and was given a big one: to move to the Executive Office as Head of Brand Marketing & Digital Strategy amidst the financial crisis. Within two weeks of my starting in the role in April 2010, Goldman found itself uniquely in the spotlight, the focus of intensely negative media attention and regulatory scrutiny, with a brand now well recognized but little understood by the broader public. From crisis comes opportunity - this… Show more  Partner, COO of Global Compliance, Legal & Internal Audit Jan 2006 - Mar 20104 years 3 months New York, NY At the end of 2005, senior management asked me to take on a significant new leadership challenge amidst the intensifying regulatory environment: to become the COO of the Global Compliance Division, with responsibilities later expanded to Legal and Internal Audit as well. I brought a revenue business approach to these “non-revenue” areas, ensuring they became as highly regarded for how well they ran as businesses, as they were for their deep subject-matter expertise.
