Position Summary
The Carlyle Group seeks to hire an Senior Associate within the AlpInvest Co-Investment team. Investments are made globally across all industries and company stages by a team consisting of over 30 investment professionals located in New York, Amsterdam and Hong Kong. The Co-Investment Program is designed to work alongside private equity GPs throughout the lifecycle of a deal. AlpInvest Partners engages early in the deal process and actively supports the lead financial sponsor underwriting a bid for a company in addition to acting as a supportive partner to help finance leveraged buyouts. The team has invested $15+ billion in over 325 transactions with 150+ private equity firms including Permira, Apollo, TA Associates, Advent International, KKR, Symphony Technology Group, Charlesbank, CVC Capital, TSG Consumer, Hellman & Friedman, Nautic Partners, GTCR, Ridgemont Equity Partners and Littlejohn.
Key Duties/Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities
Senior Associates are key members of the investment team. Key job functions include:
Lead evaluation and execution of transactions reporting to Managing Directors and Principals
Develop and mentor junior investment professionals
Manage due diligence process including dialogue with management teams and external advisors
Determine appropriate valuations, legal/ tax structures and capital structures
Prepare memos and recommendations for investment committee
Negotiate transaction agreements and financing documents
Monitor existing portfolio companies through interactions with GPs and participation in board meetings and identify opportunities for performance improvement and value realization.
Prepare periodic investor updates and develop relationships with the Co-investment team's LP base and fundraising activities
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree required; MBA is a plus
Professional Experience
The target candidate will have a minimum of 5 and up to 10 years of experience, with prior experience in private equity investing. Successful candidates will be team players with the confidence to interact with general partners through frequent direct interaction and ability to thrive in a fast-pace and entrepreneurial environment. The target candidate's background will include:
Familiarity with leveraged buyouts and other private equity transactions
Advanced financial modeling capability and ability to interpret financial metrics or complete financial analysis when analyzing investment opportunities
Desire and ability to learn about new companies and industries, and ability to quickly get up to speed in understanding company financials and performance trends
Experience with outside-in sector research and analysis
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
