Summary
The ten-week Fund Finance Summer Internship is designed to provide an introduction to Finance within the alternative investment industry. Interns will receive real-world experience that will foster professional development while complementing their studies. Interns will be exposed to senior management, immersed in Grosvenor values, and collaborate with the Finance team on firm priorities and projects.
Description Of The Teams
The Fund Data Reporting and Analytics Team (“Fund Data Team”) focuses primarily on preparing portfolio performance reports and analyses in support of GCM Grosvenor’s business development and marketing initiatives for our Private Equity, Infrastructure, and Real Estate investment verticals.
The Fund Accounting Team is responsible for performing accounting functions for Private Equity investment partnerships and accounts managed by the Firm, including maintaining the accounting ledgers, reviewing quarterly and annual financial statement valuations, cash flows, daily transactions, etc.
Responsibilities
The individual will be involved in the following critical activities:
Manage, monitor, and provide guidance to outsourced accounting providers.
Analyze data related to fund and co-investments across all our private equity, infrastructure, credit, and real estate-focused portfolios.
Prepare, analyze, and report performance information for business development and marketing purposes as well as for GCM Grosvenor’s investment team and senior management.
Manage analyses and requests through a multitude of applications and data visualization tools such as Microsoft PowerBI, Microsoft PowerQuery, Tableau, IHS Market iLevel, third party benchmarking services, and various Microsoft Excel Add-ins. Gain exposure to managing and querying transactional and reference data from enterprise data warehouses and accounting databases.
Facilitate and influence process changes associated with the build-out of a several new business processes
Review quarter-end receivables, payables, and foreign translation adjustments
Effectively work with other teams throughout the firm, including tax, legal, treasury, client services, marketing, etc.
Support investment and client relationship personnel on ad-hoc requests.
Facilitate the annual financial statement audit process with the funds’ auditors.
Assist in special projects as requested.
Education, Skills, And Experience Requirements
The ideal experience and critical competencies for the role include the following:
Pursuing a BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business Analytics with outstanding academic credentials set to graduate in December 2024 or Spring 2025; applicable coursework or internship in the field of investments or financial markets.
Knowledge of partnership accounting as well as exposure to financial reporting, auditing, and tax.
Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The ideal candidate will have the ability to articulate complex thoughts in a clear and concise manner.
Demonstrated team player; self-starter; independent thinker; excellent judgment.
Positive mind set with an eagerness to learn and desire to build and improve process.
The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, a high level of energy and the flexibility to work extended hours at times to accommodate specific projects.
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Microsoft Excel skills and a demonstrated aptitude for quantitative and qualitative analysis.
The highest degree of integrity and the ability to maintain confidential information.
