Morningstar DBRS is seeking an Analyst for our ABS – Surveillance team in the New York office. We are looking for problem solvers, analytical thinkers, and solution initiators to focus on extant asset-backed securities (ABS) transactions. This role will provide unique opportunities to learn and be exposed to more than 40 segments of the ABS market as well as gaining expertise in computational and automation based processes. You will be part of a team responsible for maintaining the ratings and taking rating actions on ABS securitized assets such as auto loans, equipment leases, aircraft leases, marine containers, and many others.

Job Responsibilities

  • Analyze credit risk in ABS by conducting collateral analysis, building transaction models, and reviewing related documentation.

  • Learn and develop a strong understanding of structured finance principles and ABS market fundamentals.

  • Participate in credit training, with the goal of assuming a portfolio of transactions to monitor after training completion.

  • Contribute to credit rating committees and assist in preparing committee materials and presentations.

  • Conduct topical and sector-specific research to support industry insights.

  • Collaborate with team members to learn department tools, processes, and automation techniques.

  • Assist in developing and maintaining databases to track collateral performance and transaction data.

  • Design and implement queries to verify and analyze large datasets.

  • Identify and recommend enhancements to improve existing automation tools and processes.

  • Collaborate with colleagues across analytics, research, and technology teams to enhance rating methodologies and workflows.

  • Support responses to investor, issuer, or regulatory inquiries under senior supervision (if applicable).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, mathematics, engineering, economics, or a similar quantitative discipline.

  • Excellent quantitative, analytical, and writing skills.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.

  • Intellectual curiosity and the ability to translate ideas into practical tools that improve departmental efficiency.

  • Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, R, or SQL (beyond basic VBA knowledge).

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to deliver high-quality, error-free analysis.

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team setting.

  • Prior experience or internships in structured finance, credit analysis, data analytics, or related fields is a plus.

  • Progress toward professional certifications such as CFA or FRM is a plus but not required.
