The Department of Industrial Engineering (IE) at the University of Houston (UH) invites qualified

candidates to apply for a postdoctoral research position. The research will focus on statistical modeling,

machine learning and trustworthy AI to develop effective and efficient algorithms. The postdoc position

will be supervised by Dr. Na Zou (https://nzou1.github.io/) and is set to begin as early as possible. It is a

one-year appointment. The salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s qualification and can be

Responsibilities

  • Lead research collaborations with other institutions on projects funded by Federal or industrial

agencies.

  • Co-advise graduate students in Zou’s lab, guiding their research and helping publish research

findings

  • Assist in developing and delivering research proposals

  • Potentially co-develop or co-teach courses in IE

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Industrial Engineering, Statistics, Computer Science, or closely

relevant fields

  • Expertise in developing novel statistical and mathematical models for addressing data challenges

in real-world applications

  • Publications in top data science and machine learning journals and conferences.

  • Proficiency in computational experiments with programming in Python

  • Strong writing and presentation skills

The postdoctoral researcher will receive guaranteed support from Dr. Zou, which includes access to high performance computational resources with GPUs, conference travel support, and great opportunities for

collaboration and networking with experts in Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, Health

Informatics, and the Medical School.

MQ: Requires singular knowledge of a specialized advanced professional discipline or the highest level of general business knowledge, normally acquired through attainment of a directly job-related terminal degree or equivalent formal training in a recognized field of specialization that is directly related to the type of work being performed. No experience is required.
