About The Role & Program "What You Need To Know”, is a weekday news show anchored by ABC News chief international correspondent James Longman and senior political correspondent Rachel Scott, on Disney+. The short-form streaming series is ABC News' first original daily news program created for Disney+. "What You Need To Know" is the fast, fresh way to stay ahead of the conversation as viewers start their day. From breaking headlines and the day's biggest stories to entertainment buzz and viral videos, the show has everything you need to know.
The approximate dates of this internship are mid-August 2026 through early January 2027 and the hours will be a Monday-Friday schedule, 5:00am ET – 1:00pm ET. What You Will Do “What You Need To Know” interns will perform a variety of duties. You will be assisting producers and staff with all aspects of production.
Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To
Booking, assisting with news breaking crashes, logging & transcribing
Assisting with graphics
Researching stories & additional support functions
Light video editing
Pitching stories
Shadowing in control room
Shadowing/assisting with field pieces
Assisting with social media
Assisting on segments
Fact checking
Required Qualifications & Skills
Experience with multi-tasking in a constantly evolving and collaborative work environment, effectively balancing and prioritizing multiple projects
Experience with working in a deadline-driven environment
Experience in and/or basic understanding of news production
Experience with standard office software
Preferred Qualifications
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office with an emphasis in MS Word, Access, Excel & PowerPoint
Previous internship experience, either within print or broadcast journalism
Previous experience related to social media
Familiarity and/or experience with editing systems, such as Adobe Premiere and/or Avid
Education
Major or previous coursework in Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, Film/Television or a related field
Junior or Senior year preferred
Eligibility Requirements & Internship Information Candidates for this opportunity MUST meet all of the below requirements:
Be enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree taking at least one class at time of application OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship.
Current Disney Interns, College, International, or Culinary Program Participants: You may only work for ONE consecutive year (12 months) in any combination of an internship and/or program.
Be at least 18 years of age
Possess unrestricted work authorization
Additional Information
Able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the internship
The approximate dates of this internship are mid-August 2026 through early January 2027
Fully available to work 40 hours per week with the schedule of Monday-Friday, 5:00am ET – 1:00pm ET.
Able to provide own housing for the duration of the internship program in the New York, New York area
Able to provide/have reliable transportation to/from work
The pay rate for this role in New York is $22.50 per hour.
